Although the foam rollers from the dollar store work, their drawback is that they hold a lot of paint, and are messy and time consuming to clean should you wish to change the colour that you are using for the next layer. So choose a painting brayer especially made for printmaking or for artists. 3. Paints: Soft or fluid paints are good. Any colors sizes types you wish. 4. Print Surfaces: Copy paper is ideal for newcomers. Bring a stack! If you have access to other types of paper such as rice papers, oriental papers, medical exam paper, deli paper, old papers, ledger paper, music scores old book paper. You get the idea - just bring what you think. 5. Stamps and Stencils: Anything to add interest and pattern to your prints. These can be purchased or you can bring found items such as corks, bottle tops, bubble wrap, corrugated cardboard, onion bag mesh or paper doilies. Once again, anything goes. 6. Markmaking items: These have to be soft so you don’t damage the plate. Think chopstick, Q-Tip, Posca Pens, palette knife, the tip of your brush handle etc. 7. General Items, Baby wipes for cleaning your gel plate, Spray Mist water bottle, Water well, Palette paper, Paper towels, plastic table cloth, scissors, masking tape. 8. Collage Items: glue such as gloss medium, matte medium, gel, white glue or mod podge. The last three types are thicker and take longer to dry than the first two, scissors, a surface to glue on such as matte board or canvas.
